Behavior Management: The Person-Centered Way is a 1 hour course that examines how health care professionals can effectively and compassionately intervene with residents who are exhibiting behavioral reactions which may be considered difficult or challenging. The course provides definitions of person-centered care and the connection between behavior management and person-centered care. It identifes the most common behaviors found in senior care settings. The course ends by exploring ways to change how caregivers think about behaviors and provides tips to use when intervening with individuals who are having difficult behavioral reactions.

Course Outline

Instructor: Dr. James Collins, PhD

Jim Collins, PhD, Gerontologist, has provided training, education and consultation to the senior care industry for over 30 years and has experience in skilled nursing, assisted living, home health and has been Executive Director for a hospice agency. He also has decades of experience in geropsychiatry, aging and mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders. He has written two books and is a speaker, including KeyNote for health care and assisted living association conferences around the country.

Criteria for Successful Completion

To receive continuing education credit for this program, you must complete the entire course, including registration, viewing the video program, taking the post-test and obtaining a score of at least 70% or better, and completing the program evaluation. If you do not score a 70% or better, you may take the exam again as many times as necessary to receive a passing score. When a score of 70% or better is achieved, you will be able to move forward to the evaluation and receive your certificate online.
