This course examines some of the most common types of mental illnesses and substance use disorder. It explains how to use appropriate nonpharmacological interventions to assist residents when needed. The course also reviews some of the most important aspects of building a culture of safety and reviews some of the most important aspects of building a culture of safety. This course borrows heavily on F-Tags 689, 740, and 741.

The purpose of this course is to understand common mental illnesses, signs of substance use, appropriate nonpharmacological interventions, and developing a culture of safety.
Learning Objectives
1. Demonstrate understanding of highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being, mental and psychosocial disorders, substance use disorder, trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. 2. Identify critical elements of behavioral health care services 3. Explain necessary steps and safety measures if and when substance use is suspected 4. Review aspects of a culture of safetyCriteria for Successful Completion
To receive continuing education credit for this program, you must complete the entire course, including registration, viewing the video program, taking the post-test and obtaining a score of at least 70% or better, and completing the program evaluation. If you do not score a 70% or better, you may take the exam again as many times as necessary to receive a passing score. When a score of 70% or better is achieved, you will be able to move forward to the evaluation and receive your certificate online.
