Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia: A Brief Overview for Professional Caregivers is a 1 hour course that provides a general overview of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The course defines and differentiates Alzheimer's disease and dementia and lists common signs, symptoms and behaviors of both. Information is provided on effective behavioral interventions, valuing the person with AD or dementia, and respecting personal choices and uniqueness of the individual. It challenges the caregiver to change their perception of the person diagnosed with AD or dementia in more positive ways. The course ends by identifying environmental and safety issues.

Instructor: Dr. James Collins, PhD
Jim Collins, PhD, Gerontologist, has provided training, education and consultation to the senior care industry for over 30 years and has experience in skilled nursing, assisted living, home health and has been Executive Director for a hospice agency. He also has decades of experience in geropsychiatry, aging and mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders. He has written two books and is a speaker, including KeyNote for health care and assisted living association conferences around the country.Target Audience

Asynchronous recorded video-based activity.Criteria for Successful Completion
To receive continuing education credit for this program, you must complete the entire course, including registration, viewing the video program, taking the post-test and obtaining a score of at least 70% or better, and completing the program evaluation. If you do not score a 70% or better, you may take the exam again as many times as necessary to receive a passing score. When a score of 70% or better is achieved, you will be able to move forward to the evaluation and receive your certificate online.
